7th Graders discuss plays during a time out

The NCMS boys traveled to Mayeta on February 7, to play Royal Valley. The eighth grade A-team started with number 34 Noah Hilbert winning the jump ball. The ball went to number 21 Carter Stallbaumer and the game started.

The Thunder couldn’t get going to start the game and ended the first quarter trailing 12-7. Royal Valley kept the lead in the second quarter, ending the half 21-13. The Thunder entered the second half trailing and were looking to come back. The Thunder fought hard but were still trailing 33-24 going into the fourth. The Thunder got steals and hit shots, but couldn’t get it done and ended up losing 49-38.

Next up was the seventh-grade A-team game. Number 44 Trent Stuke went up for the tip but ended up losing starting the game with Royal Valley having possession.

The seventh graders started down, ending the first quarter 8-6. The Thunder kept fighting, ending the second quarter down 20-9. The Thunder seventh grade was looking to turn things around and come back in the second half. They kept going, but couldn’t take the lead back, ending the third quarter down 26-11. The Thunder seventh grade was still down going into the fourth quarter, trying to fight back. They kept fighting but couldn’t get it done and lost 33-16.

The last game of the day was a combined B-team game between Nemaha Central and Royal Valley 7th and 8th grade B-team. The game started off with number 12 Caesar Rodriguez-Sanchez going up for the jump but lost starting with Royal Valley possession.

They played hard the whole game and it gave them lots of experience. It was a good game to get experience and practice for the 7th and 8th graders. They fought hard the whole game but finished the fourth quarter losing 53-8.

Tyson Beebe-Dishong said, “It was a hard-fought game, but in the end, we couldn’t come out on top.”

The results may not have come out how they wanted, but it was a good experience for all of the teams. The Thunder played hard even though they lost and provided them with a good experience.
